Fair Ballot Key to Bright Future: Mohammadi

KHOST CITY - Defence Minister Gen. Bismillah Khan Mohammadi reiterated on Sunday security forces had adopted all possible measures to conduct elections in a peaceful environment.

He expressed the view at a high-level meeting attended by Khost Governor Abdul Jabbar Naeemi, senior security officials, lawmakers and Independent Elections Commission (IEC) representatives.

Security forces were ready to maintain exemplary law and order throughout the country, specifically in the volatile Khost province, he said, adding no one would be allowed to scuttle the landmark polls.

He lauded the performance and close coordination among security agencies in the province and noted with satisfaction that remote districts had enhanced security for the elections.

Fair polls held the key to a bright future for the country, he said, urging people to throng polling stations to cast their votes without any fear. He directed security officials to expedite efforts to further bolster law and order.

Governor Naeemi briefed the minister on plans adopted ahead of the elections, saying provincial authorities saw no major security challenge to the vote. He added local security officials had worked out a comprehensive plan to protect the ballot and make the process a success.

Keeping in view directives from the central government, no official would be allowed to oppose or favour any presidential or provincial council candidate, he vowed.

He asked the minister to take a personal interest in ensuring the provision of badly-needed weapons to security forces to meet challenges. (Pajhwok)
