Smooth Polls Top Priority: Daudzai

KABUL - The Minister of Interior, Mohammad Omar Daudzai, on Sunday met with three members of the US congress wherein they discussed coming presidential and provincial council’s election and both the sides stressed on security and transparency in April polls.

A press release issued by the Ministry of Interior (MoI), the Interior Minister welcomed the UD parliamentarians, and said that providing safe and secure environment for coming presidential and provincial councils polls was his top priority, and the Afghan police would leave no stone unturned to secure upcoming polls and foil the Taliban’s subversive attacks.

He pointed out to recent terror attacks in Kabul city, and said terrorist groups in collaboration with the region’s spy agencies try to disturb election process in Afghanistan but such kinds of struggles and attacks cannot stop Afghan people’s decision. “As we see thousands of Afghans attend election campaigns on daily basis and are willing to participate in coming election which is a national process,” the minister added.

In the meantime, members of the US congress praised the Afghan forces’ activities particularly the Afghan police forces’ bravery in thwarting terror attacks by anti-government elements, and said the US government as well as people of the United States respect decision of Afghan people in electing Afghanistan’s next leader through the democratic process of election.

The members of the US congress stressed on continued support of the US in supporting and training the Afghan National Police (ANP), and said the United States would stand besides people of Afghanistan. (AT)
