MAZAR-I-SHARIF - Strict security measures have been put in place in northern Balkh province ahead of Nawroz celebrations scheduled for March 21, officials said.

Every year, Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of Balkh, hosts the Persian New Year celebrations. People from across the country visit Mazar-e-Sharif to attend the celebrations.

Col. Abdul Razzaq Qadiri, the provincial police chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News security forces had bolstered law and order throughout the province and were ready to thwart any untoward situation.

Qadiri said he was in coordination with other institutions to ensure people’s security during the celebrations. (Pajhwok)
