Afghan Officials Travel  to Tajikistan for Economic Conference

KABUL - The fifth economic conference between Afghanistan and Tajikistan will be held this week in Dushanbe, with several Afghan government officials traveling to Tajikistan on Thursday.

The fifth conference will address improving the economies of both countries and trade, addressing customs problems, insurance opportunities and higher education opportunities for Afghan students in Tajikistan, according to Deputy Economic Minister Pohanmal Hukm Khan Habibi.

“In this conference, discussions will be made on addressing transition problems in the ports of both countries,” Habibi said.

Habibi added that issues during the conference will also include a railway between Afghanistan and Tajikistan, transit facilities, consolidation of beaches on both sides of Amo River, import of energy to northern Afghanistan and also  providing opportunities for implementation of energy transfer from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan through Afghanistan.
