India to Hold Conference on Business with Afghanistan

KABUL - A two-day conference entitled "Trade With Afghanistan" is set to begin in New Delhi, India on Monday. Janan Mosazai, the spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), said the gathering would focus on economic cooperation and investment opportunities in Afghanistan.

Business representatives from 19 countries, primarily from Central and South Asia, are expected to participate in the meeting.

The Foreign Affairs Ministries of Afghanistan and India coordinated the even along with the two nations' Chambers of Commerce and Industries.

"This two-day international conference is being held for regional economic cooperation and to build confidence in commerce, industry and investment in Central Asia," Mosazai said.

The MoFA spokesman also said an exhibition of Afghan products would be on display at the conference. The showcase, called "Made in Afghanistan," is intended to introduce Afghan products to potential foreign investors and customers.

Reportedly some kind of accord regarding economic cooperation is expected to be signed between the Chambers of Commerce and Industries of Afghanistan and India at the conference.

"The signing of an agreement between the Chambers of Commerce and Industries of the two countries is also planned as part of this conference," said Mosazai, who was appointed as the next Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan on Saturday.

In the past 12 years, India has become an increasingly close ally of the Afghan government. A strategic partnership deal signed between the two countries has paved the way for military, economic and energy cooperation that has quickly made India one of Afghanistan's biggest supporters.

Private and public Indian investors have given particular attention to the mining, technology, agriculture and infrastructure sectors of Afghanistan. (Tolo News)
