Condolence Ceremonies for Martyrs on 30th

KABUL - President Hamid Karzai on Sunday decided condolence ceremonies will be held on September 30 in remembrance of thousands of people killed during the Soviet-backed communist regime.

The decision came at a consultative meeting Karzai had with jihadi leaders and political figures at the Presidential Palace in Kabul, days after the Netherlands government issued a list of 5,000 victims.

Fateha would be offered at all mosques across the country and Afghanistan’s flag would fly half-mast for two days in remembrance of the martyrs, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.

A mosque and a monument would be constructed in the Pul-i-Charkhi area on the eastern outskirts of Kabul as token of respect to the martyrs, the participants of the gathering agreed.

The meeting was attended by senior leaders including Sibghatullah Mujaddedi, Mohammad Qasim Fahim, Karim Khalili, Fazal Hadi Muslimyar, Salahuddin Rabbani, Hidayatullah Amin Arsala and Niamatullah Shahrani.

Gul Rahman Qazi, Qayamuddin Kashaf, Ismail Khan, Abdul Hadi Arghandiwal, Abdul Rahim Wardak, Mohammad Mohaqiq, Wahidullah Sabawoon, Mohammad Akbari and Zarar Ahmad Muqbil also participated. (Pajhwok)
