US Eyeing to Set-Up Permanent Bases in Afghanistan: Karzai

US Eyeing to Set-Up Permanent Bases in Afghanistan: Karzai

KABUL - During a meeting with the members of several youth groups at the Presidential Palace on Saturday, President Karzai made some strong comments against the US administration, saying that Washington was never interested to leave Afghanistan and wished to set-up permanent bases in the country.

Karzai told the participants of the gathering that Afghans are not happy with the presence of foreign forces and progress made with regard to fighting terrorism in their country.

"Afghanistan is not happy with the presence of foreign forces in Afghanistan. Their (foreign forces') performance over the past 10 years has not been satisfactory, but they (foreign forces) have been benefited instead. Afghans are definitely not happy with their ways of fighting terrorism," said Karzai.

He added that discussions are ongoing with regard to the Bilateral Security Agreement (BSA) and made it clear that so far, Washington has not agreed to any of the Afghan government's conditions. Karzai mentioned that neither side has agreed upon a definition of "foreign aggression" and how to go about preventing it.

"In the BSA, it has been mentioned that if Afghanistan is attacked, we (US) will protect Afghanistan through negotiations and by providing equipment. But, our question is- What is the exact definition of an attack? Do you call it an attack, when a neighbor comes to our soil with tanks, airplanes, etc. or do you call it an attack when someone comes to Afghanistan and explodes himself in our cities and villages, killing our citizens?" Karzai said.

Additionally, President Karzai assured the people of Afghanistan that post-2014 no untoward incident would happen in the country. He blamed the foreign entities for the current crisis in Afghanistan. (Tolo News)
