KABUL - The Lower House of the Afghan Parliament approved the Election Law on Wednesday. The law contains 79 articles and 16 chapters.

The approval came after Afghan President Hamid Karzai emphasized that the laws governing Independent Election Commission (IEC) and Electoral Complaints Commission (ECC) must be approved.

President Karzai in an interaction with the Heads of Parliamentary committees asked the MPs to approve the laws governing the IEC and ECC.

President Karzai had made some changes in the law and resent it to the Lower House for its approval.

The transferring of ECC's responsibilities to the Attorney General is one of the changes made by President Karzai.

The laws governing the IEC and ECC were approved by the Afghanistan National Assembly. Many political parties consider the law to be of utmost importance for the upcoming elections. (Tolo News)
