No Need to Worry About Post-2014 Scenario: Ghani

JALALABAD - Security Transition Commission chief Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai on Tuesday said the people should not worry about post-2014 situation as Afghan security forces were strong enough to protect the country's sovereignty.

Speaking at a conference at Nangarhar University in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, Ahmadzai rejected as baseless concerns about post-2014 situation in Afghanistan after the withdrawal of most of foreign combat troops.

He said political integration could help further improve the country's prevailing situation. He stressed national forces should remain national and should not be used for personal interest.

"Afghans should wisely decide about their politics in next 10 months and there is a great need for political unity," he added.

He said if political unity was achieved, the situation would become better, saying Afghan forces should remain united for the sake of their country's defense beyond 2014.

Ahmadzai advised losers should accept election results and should congratulate the winners instead of rejecting public mandate given to their opponents.

He asked the Afghans not to be worried about post-2014 situation and fully participate in next year's elections. (Pajhwok)
