Materials for New Voter Cards Sent to 9 Provinces

KABUL - The Independent Election Commission (IEC) on Saturday dispatched essential materials to nine northern provinces for the distribution of new voter cards ahead of the April 2014 presidential and provincial elections, an official said.

IEC spokesman Noor Mohammad Noor told reporters in Kabul the process of dispatching such materials to provinces had been set in motion a week ago and would end in the next two days.

He said the materials were sent to Faryab, Badakhshan, Balkh, Jawzjan, Takhar, Baghlan, Kunduz, Sari-Pul and Samangan. Noor added some provinces had already been delivered the materials and would be dispatched to other provinces, except southern and central.

He said the materials had been delivered to provinces with the help of Afghan National Army troops through the air and ground. The official said the election commission planned to give voter cards to those having lost them, have newly crossed the age of 18 years and those possessing useless cards.

He said the number of individuals who needed new voter cards was estimated at four millions and that there would be no problem if the number was higher than estimated. Noor said every polling centre would have exclusive branches men and women for the distribution of voter cards. (Pajhwok)
