AG asks MoF to Substantiate his Accusations against MPs

KABUL - The Attorney General (AG) said that only one case related to smuggling of alcohol has been received. It comes as the Ministry of Finance (MoF) has previously said that cases related to all the MPs accused of corruption have been sent to the Attorney General's Office.

"If there is any accusation and there is evidence, it must be officially sent to the Attorney General's Office, so that we can start our investigations," Basir Aziz Attorney General's spokesman told TOLOnews.

Meanwhile, head of high office of oversight and anti-corruption considers existence of corruption in parliament shameful.

"It is not only embarrassing but also as an Afghan it is shameful for us, existence of corruption in our administrations also raised noise of international community," anti-corruption chief Azizullah Lodin told TOLOnews.

It comes after Afghan finance minister Hazrat Omar Zakhilwal on Monday revealed the names of lawmakers that he claims are involved in smuggling and other illegal activities

The finance minister accused Mohammad Zahir Qadir, Mohammad Naeem Lalai Hamedzai, Mohammad Arif Rahmani, Mahmmod Khan Sulaiman Khil, Azim Mohsini and Samiullah Samim of making illegal demands and being involved in smuggling.

However, the accused MPs dismissed the allegations, urging the minister to provide proof. (Tolo News)
