KABUL - Some senators on Sunday alleged security officials in parts of the country had reached agreements with insurgents not to attack each other and defining their spheres of interest.

Members of the Meshrano Jirga expressed their deep concern over growing insecurity in much of the country, saying some officials had agreed with militants not to be weighed against each other.

Senator Ali Akbar Jamshedi said the Taliban continued to unleash violence in Kunar, Farah, Badakhshan, Nangarhar and other parts.

He said recent attack on an Afghan army post in Narai in which a dozen troops were killed was a warning to Afghan forces that the enemies of Afghanistan remained powerful.

BilqeesRoshan said the government and foreign forces had not been able to improve security in the country.

She said some security officials had reached agreements with militants to avoid attacking each other. The lawmaker claimed civilians who passed information to security forces on insurgents were being arrested.

Roshan said the release of Taliban inmates had resulted into increased violence instead of peace.

Public representative from Logar SifatullahHaqmal accused foreigners of fueling insecurity in the country to promote their own interests.

He said neighboring countries were exporting terrorism to keep Afghanistan from entering a bilateral security agreement with the US.

“Five months ago when I travelled to Logar I saw some Taliban were sitting with a police commander. It shows they have mutual understanding not to attach each other,” he said.

But deputy Interior Ministry spokesman Najibullah Danish strongly rejected any such agreements between security officials and militants.

He said Afghan forces were devoted to the defense of their country and people. They laid down their lives on a daily basis to maintaining security, he added. (Pajhwok)
