Karzai Discuss US-Afghan  Security Pact with Senators

KABUL - President Hamid Karzai said that Afghanistan is holding precise talks with the United States of America over a long term security pact between the two nations.

A spokesperson for the president Hamid Karzai Adela Raz said president Karzai met with the Afghan senators on Tuesday to discuss security pact between Kabul and Washington.

Raz said, “Important national issues were discussed during the meeting including security pact between Kabul and Washington. It was recalled during the meeting that the Afghan government was following talks over security agreement very precisely and the pact will signed with Washington only if the national interest of Afghanistan is completely considered.”

Karzai once again emphasized on the agreement of the two nations regarding the security pact however he said that the national interest of Afghanistan must be consolidated before signing the agreement.

In the meantime Adela Raz said that president Karzai also insisted that Afghanistan will sign security agreement with United States only if Washington remains committed to support Afghanistan without any conditions.

Karzai said, “United States will have a military presence in Afghanistan only if the conditions of Afghanistan is consolidated in the security pact and

Washington remains committed to support Afghanistan without any conditions.”

In regards to Afghan peace process Karzai said that the Afghan government remains committed to continue peace talks with the militant groups,

apparently the government has not achieved any significant results so far.

Meanwhile head of the Afghan senate and Afghan senators urged for the reform of Afghan elections and insisted that specialist expertise must be hired in election commission of Afghanistan.

Presidential election is due to be organized during April next year amid preparations by NATO troops to withdraw from the country.

The senators also urged that necessary steps should be taken to guarantee the security of election. (KP)
