KABUL - Afghanistan and Turkey on Tuesday signed an agreement enabling businesspeople from the two sides to conduct trade fairs on each other’s soil.

The accord, to be valid for a decade, was aimed at cementing trade cooperation between the two nations, said the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industries head.

Mohammad Qurban Haqjo inked the agreement with Secretary-General of Afghan-Turkish Industrialist and Businessmen Association Murat Akyuz in Kabul.

Haqjo told reporters after the signing ceremony a three-day Afghan-Turk trade exhibition would be held in Kabul in mid-April.

For his part, Murat Akyuz called Afghanistan an ideal investment destination in the region. “The Western media is painting a grossly wrong picture of Afghanistan that offers good business opportunities, especially for Turkish entrepreneurs.”

Currently, 200 Turkish companies are working in Afghanistan. In 2010 and 2011, Afghan exports to Turkey accounted for $1 million, but the figure shot up to $35 million last year. (Pajhwok)
