WASHINGTON, D.C. – US Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia, and Emerging Threats, Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, said, “After 9/11 we fought with the Northern Alliance, not Karzai, to free Afghanistan from the Taliban. The Northern Alliance is now called the Afghanistan National Front and represents the ethnic minorities of Afghanistan which comprise the majority of the population. The Afghanistan National Front is our alternative to Karzai’s harmful rule. We were their friends once and they remain our best hope for creating a peaceful and stable Afghanistan. It’s time for the U.S. to recognize the National Front as a very significant force in Afghanistan to hasten our withdrawal and prevent a Taliban take over.”
He further added, that “Last year Karzai blamed U.S. soldiers saying they were ‘attacking Afghan villages and Afghan homes.’ And the year before that he said, ‘You remember a few years ago I was saying thank you to the foreigners… Now I have stopped saying that... They’re here for their own purposes, for their own goals, and they’re using our soil for that.’
He said that I strongly believe Karzai's pattern of vicious accusations against American personnel has fueled the ongoing deadly terrorist attacks in Afghanistan.
“In 2010 Karzai was reported to have said in private, ‘if I come under foreign pressure, I might join the Taliban,”Rohrabacher added.
Regarding the recent murders of American servicemen after President Hamid Karzai accused the U.S. of conspiring with the Taliban, US congressman said that “President Karzai has again spewed ugly insults about the United States military and defamed the honor and questioned the integrity of our men and women who have fought and bled for him and the people of Afghanistan for more than a decade. This past week Karzai accused our government of conspiring with the Taliban to foment violence as an excuse to keep our troops in Afghanistan longer.”
“We should not have been caught by surprise by Karzai’s recent words and the related deaths of more American service members. His contempt for us and his disregard for our soldier’s safety has been out in the open for some time. Karzai’s many comments and statements against our troops have undoubtedly served as a source of encouragement for the terrorists who planned and executed hundreds of insider attacks,” he said.
Rohrabacher further stated that “This is not the first time Karzai has backhandedly encouraged terrorists to murder Americans by expressing ingratitude and anti-Americanism. Just last month he ordered all U.S. Special Operations forces to leave the province of Wardak. He said, ‘It became clear that armed individuals named as U.S. special force[s] stationed in Wardak province engage in harassing, annoying, torturing and even murdering innocent people.’ He made similar remarks in 2007, saying ‘our innocent people are becoming victims of careless operations of NATO and international forces.” (PR)
