Relationship with US will Not Change After Election: MoFA

KABUL - Whether the Republicans or the Democrats win the US presidential election this week, Afghanistan's relationship with the US will not change, Afghan Foreign Affairs Ministry spokesman Janan Mosazai said Sunday.

Pointing to the long-term strategic agreement signed with the US earlier this year, Mosazai said that neither the victory of the Republican leader Mitt Romney nor the re-election of Barack Obama will impact US policy on Afghanistan.

"We are sure that either one who wins the US election will be fully committed to implement the contents of Afghan-US strategic partnership," Mosazai said.

However, Afghan political analyst Sardar Mohammad Rahimi believes that a Republican win in the November 6 poll will give the Taliban and Pakistan more impetus to become more active in Afghanistan.

"If Republicans win the US election, the Taliban and Pakistan will find an opportunity to increase their activities in Afghanistan and threaten the past achievements that include the Afghan constitution, human rights, women's rights and democracy," Rahimi told TOLOnews. (Tolo News)
