Gen. Bismillah Embarks on Kunar Incursion Probe

ASADABAD - Defense Minister Gen. Bismillah Mohammadi on Monday arrived in Asadabad, the capital of eastern Kunar province, for investigating cross-border attacks from Pakistan and other security-related problems here.

Governor Syed Fazlullah Wahidi told Pajhwok Afghan News that he had discussed with the defense minister cross-border missile attacks by the Pakistani army and the worsening security situation in the province.
He said Mohammadi's visit came at a time when security in Kunar was deteriorating on a daily basis, with cross-border shelling emerging as a tough challenge for the central government.

"The defense minister is here to evaluate security situation and discuss increase in number of security forces on the border," the governor said, adding Mohammadi had promised moving an Afghan National Army (ANA) brigade towards the province's east and deploying additional troops on the border with Pakistan.
