Some Governors Reshuffled, Others Sacked

KABUL - President Hamid Karzai on Wednesday reshuffled some governors and sacked a number of others after consultations with his close aides, an official said.
Maidan Wardak Governor Halim Fidayee has been transferred in his current capacity to northern Baghlan province. He is replaced by ex-Wolesi Jirga member Majid Khan.

A knowledgeable source confided to Pajhwok Afghan News that Naeem Khan Baloch had been named as new governor of southern Helmand province.

By the same token, the official said, Abdul Jabbar Taqwa and Sarwar Subat had been appointed as governors of Kabul and Nimroz provinces respectively.

With a view to enhancing his administration's performance, the president issued marching orders to governors Karim Bahawi, Gulab Mangal, Iqbal Azizi and Munshi Majid Khan.

A spokesman for the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG), meanwhile, confirmed the gubernatorial reshuffle. Bashir Behram promised sharing details with the media later on.

Last week, the IDLG official told Pajhwok that investigations had been conducted against a number of governors and the findings sent to President Karzai. (Pajhwok)
