ANF Opposes Changes to Electoral Body

KABUL - The Afghanistan National Front (ANF), opposing changes to the Independent Election Commission's (IEC) composition, on Saturday accused the Karzai-led government of trying to establish a joint front with armed insurgents.

"The recent cabinet and national-security shake-up by the incumbent government shows it is planning a joint front with insurgents and extremist groups," ANF leader Ahmad Zia Massoud told a press conference in Kabul.
He asked all political parties to come forward and foil the government's plot, which he called "a wake-up call."

Massoul accused President Hamid Karzai of trying to appoint individuals of his choice to the election commission in order to get elected his favored candidate in next presidential election.

For a transparent vote, the politician said the government should hand over its authority to an interim set up and should avoid replacements in the electoral body.

ANF's another leader Mohammad Mohaqqiq also strongly opposed changes in IEC structure, asking the government to give all political parties their rights and take stern action against armed rebels and the killers of innocent Afghans. (Pajhwok)
