KABUL - The World Food Program (WFP) on Thursday warned of cutting food supplies to poor Afghan families if international donors failed to assist the program.
"The WFP plans to distribute aid to about 7.3 million people in Afghanistan with a cost of about $400 million (18.3 billion Afghanis) this year," WFP Regional Director for Asia Kenro Oshidari told a press conference in Kabul.
He said they needed nearly $250 million to make the food distribution process a success. He warned of cut in food supplies to many people if they were not provided early assistances from donor countries.

"If there is no fund, it will affect programs such as work for food, literacy courses for women and needy people, food distribution during emergency situation and helping the needy children at schools until June," he explained.
However, he did not say how much reduction they planned to carry out in food distribution, but said currently they provided food items to 62,000 school children each month.

Earlier, the WFP office in Kabul had said the number of children receiving food supplies each month would be reduced to 40,000 from 62,000.
Oshidari linked reduction to global economic crisis. However, he said they were in contacts with aid giving agencies to in this regard. (Pajhwok)
