Amanullah’s Daughter Receives Award

Amanullah’s Daughter Receives Award

KABUL - Former princess Hindia, the daughter of King Amanullah Khan, was given the Radio Liberty's Person of the Year Award on Tuesday.
The 83 years old has devoted more than 30 years of her life to humanitarian work for orphaned children and other needy people in Afghanistan.

Happy with the accolades, the ex-princess said she still remembered her father's saying "the children of kings should be the servants of people."
She added: "I don't know whether or not I deserve this honor. But I think it is my duty to serve the people.

Hindia dedicated her award to all Afghan women promoting humanitarian causes. "I haven't received such an award before and never thought that I will be able to earn it."
She was adjudged the Person of the Year because of the many welfare activities she had been associated with, Radio Azadi Director Rahimullah Samander told Pajhwok Afghan News.

She collected money from people in Italy and spent it on Afghan refugees and the treatment of disabled children, Samander said. "She even cooked food herself for the needy children."
She is the fifth Afghan to win the Azadi Radio award. Previous winners are Farhad Darya, Ramazan Bashardost, Anarkali Honaryar and Gul Agha Sherzai. (Pajhwok)
