Gen. Allen, Kayani Confer on Border Security

ISLAMABAD - Top American and Pakistani military officials discussed security along the Pak-Afghan border during a meeting in Rawalpindi on Saturday, the army said.
An International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) team, led by Gen. John Allen, met Pakistan army chief Gen. Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani at the General Headquarters (GHQ).

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that the talks focused on matters of border security, security operations in border areas and coordination mechanisms to avoid untoward incidents.

It is believed the reopening of Pakistan ground supply routes for NATO-led troops in Afghanistan also figured at the meeting. The US has been pushing for reopening the routes.

Islamabad closed the key supply line in November last year when ISAF helicopters killed 24 Pakistani soldiers in a cross-border raids on security posts in the Mohmand tribal region.

A statement from ISPR said a trilateral meeting among the military authorities of Pakistan, Afghanistan and ISAF also figured at the talks. Both Kayani and Allen will be attending Sunday's meeting. (Pajhwok)
