No Fresh US-Taliban Talks: MoFA

KABUL - The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday said there is no truth in a British media report that revealed the Taliban movement and the US government had resumed stalled peace talks.
On Saturday, without naming any officials, Britain's Channel Four reported that high-ranking Taliban leaders and US officials had restarted peace negotiation after a brief halt of several weeks.
The report drew a quick rebuttal from Taliban leaders who rubbished the channels' report as propaganda aimed at inducing divisuins in the group.

Foreign ministry's spokesman Janan Musazai said: "As far as our discussions with US friends are concerned, I reject the (report about) resumption of peace talks."
Musazai added the the parleys were Afghan-led and the US government had also said it would never proceed with peace talks with the Taliban without informing the Karzai administration.

The Taliban walked out of the talks after several gory incidents that infuriated the group, including the burning of the Holy Quran and the massacre of 17 civilians in southern Kandahar province.

According to the British channel, Tayyeb Agha and ShabudeenDelawar, former Taliban ambassador to Saudi Arabia, led the meeting with American officials in Qatar, where the insurgents plan to set up a political office.
Taliban spokesman ZabihullahMujahid, in a statement, said: "We won't resume the peace parleys until the US meets all the conditions that we have previously agreed toward trust building."
