Bryce Promises Increased Assistance to Uruzgan

TIRINKOT - The visiting governor-general of Australia on Wednesday met with troops from her country in central Uruzgan province, promising improved assistance toward the province's education sector.
Quentin Bryce, accompanied by the Australian ambassador to Afghanistan, also called on the Governor Amir Mohammad Akhunzada at his office in Tirinkot, the provincial capital.

Akhunzada told Pajhwok Afghan News the Australian officials' trip was positive as they discussed various issues, including security and reconstruction.

Bryce also visited a girls school in Tirinkot and promised teachers and students their country would increase its assistance with the province's education sector.

Bryce asked students to focus their attention more on their education to have a bright future.

Australia has 1,600 soldiers in Afghanistan based in Uruzgan. About 31 of the soldiers have so far been killed.
