Transition a Needed as Russia Interested in Stable Afghanistan: Putin

MOSCOW - A NATO transit point in Ulyanovsk is needed, as stability in Afghanistan is in Russia's national interests, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said.
"It's necessary to very pragmatically approach issue of defining what is to our advantage, whether it is consistent with our national interests or do not match. Maintaining stability in Afghanistan corresponds to our national interests and we are talking publicly about it: we will help you, so we will provide transit,"

aid Putin, answering questions from State Duma deputies, after the final report of the government, RIA Novosti reported.

"With regard to Ulyanovsk, it is not a NATO base, it's just, as the military say, a bounce platform in the case of the transit of military goods by air, so I assure you that nothing relevant to our interests

does not take place, on the contrary, all that is done in this area is fully consistent with the national interests of Russia and our people," the prime minister said. (Agencies)
