Japan Special Envoy for Afghanistan Meets Karzai

KABUL - Japan's Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Ambassador Tadamichi Yamamoto said he was optimistic regarding the developments for the preparations of Tokoyo Conference on Afghanistan.
Afghan Presidential Palace following a press release said, Japan's Special Representative for Afghanistan and Pakistan Ambassador Tadamichi Yamamoto met with Afghan president Hamid Karzai on Saturday and said Japan is still working to to finalize works for the setup of Tokyo conference on Afghanistan.

Mr. Yamamoto also said negotiations have taken place with the donor countries to ensure their commitment with Afghanistan beyond 2014 adding that the donor countries have assured him of their long term commitment to Afghanistan.

Tokyo Conference on Afghanistan is scheduled to be held during the month of July where representatives from more than 40 countries are expected to participate.

The conference will focus on international cooperation and commitment to Afghanistan beyond 2014 which is a deadline for the withdrawal of majority of NATO troops from Afghanistan.(Khaama Press)
