MoD Rejects Report on Suicide Attack Plot

MoD Rejects Report on Suicide Attack Plot

KABUL CITY - A defense ministry official on Tuesday dismissed as confusing media reports that nearly a dozen suicide bombers had been arrested close to the ministry's building. The reports in local and foreign media quoted unnamed Afghan security officials as saying that several suspected individuals had been detained for plotting suicide attacks in Kabul. The unnamed officials added a group of suspects had been detained along with 11 suicide vests at the Ministry of Defense (MoD). A number of the detainees were allegedly Afghan soldiers.

However, an MoD spokesman said the reports were confusing and based on inaccurate information. Brig. Gen. Daulat Waziri asked media outlets to issue reports based on credible information.
Pledging legal action against the media organizations that released wrong reports, he said such inaccurate information only confused the public.

The reports come amid increasing fear of rebel infiltration into the ranks of Afghan security forces and at a time when at least three NATO-led troops were shot dead by Afghan counterparts on Monday. (Pajhwok)
