Gilani, Obama to Discuss Afghanistan

Gilani, Obama to Discuss Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD - Pakistani Prime Minster Yusuf Raza Gilani, confirming his meeting with US President Barak Obama in South Korea, said on Sunday discussions on the situation in Afghanistan would take place in Monday’s meeting on the sidelines of a nuclear summit in Seoul.
Before departing for Seoul, Gilani told journalists at the Islamabad airport that his meeting with Obama would be focused on the safety of nuclear weapons in Pakistan. Issues concerning Afghanistan would also be discussed, he said.

The 53-nation nuclear security summit in Seoul is scheduled to take place on Monday.

Gilani said NATO supplies had been blocked without any pressure from the opposition and that a consensus would be developed in Parliament to resume the process. He said it was purely the government’s own decision to halt supplies to foreign troops based in the neighboring country.

Islamabad closed the key supply route for NATO-led forces after a Nov 26 cross-border airstrike that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers near the Afghan border. (Pajhwok)
