Pak-Afghan Ties Should Be Based on Trust: Khar

KABUL - Links between Pakistan and Afghanistan should be based on trust, Pakistani media reported the foreign minister, Hina Rabbani Khar, as saying.
Pakistan is seeking a "trust-based relationship" with Kabul that sets aside the past associated with support for the Taliban, according to Ms Khar.

"If we are looking for any strategic depth it cannot be achieved militarily or come through a proxy war. The only way to do is through building trust with the Afghan state," she said.
Pakistan's prime minister, Yousuf Raza Gilani, recently urged insurgents to join the Afghan peace and reconciliation process, saying it was time to open a new chapter in Afghanistan's history.

President Hamid Karzai admitted recently to having asked Pakistan to facilitate talks between the Afghan government and the Taliban.

President Karzai said that he had clearly expressed his demands to Pakistani officials during his recent visit to Islamabad and wanted his neighbor to play a practical role in Afghan peace talks.
The Afghan government believes that Pakistan's support is key to forging peace in the country. (Tolo News)
