Decision on Koran Burning After Probe: President

KABUL - President Hamid Karzai on Thursday told an extraordinary session of Parliament that a decision over the alleged desecration of the Koran would be taken after an investigation into the incident was completed.
Second Deputy Speaker of Wolesi JirgaNimatullahGhafari told Pajhwok Afghan News that members of both houses and the president strongly condemned the burning of the holy book by foreign forces.

A delegation appointed by Karzai had been sent to the Bagram airbase to probe the incident and submit its report by Thursday evening, Ghafari said.

At the emergency meeting, legislators urged the president not to take the issue lightly and ensure the US soldiers involved in the outrage were punished, he added.

ISAF Commander Gen. John R. Allen on Tuesday ordered an investigation into the reported sacrilege. "When we learned of these actions, we immediately intervened and stopped them. The materials recovered will be properly handled by appropriate religious authorities."
