JALALABAD - The municipality in Jalalabad, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, has collected 236 million afghanis revenue during the first seven months of the ongoing fiscal year— up 79 million over last year’s returns, an official said on Sunday.
Jalalabad Mayor Abasin Baheer told reporters here the municipality had been set the target of collecting 488 million afs revenue this year and so far they had collected 236 million afs — 79 million above the amount collected last year in the same period.
He said last year Jalalabad Municipality collected 157 million afs revenue in the first seven months of the fiscal year.
He added ensuring transparency in collecting taxes, reduction in expenditures and some other steps helped increase the revenue.
Referring to 107 vacant posts, Mayor Baheer said the matter had been shared with the Civil Services Commission to appoint qualified persons to these posts.
This comes few days after former Mayor Sidiqullah Jabarkhel published a 100-page report in which Jalalabad Municipality was dubbed as a corrupt institution.
Jabarkhel who was present in today’s conference termed the report a conspiracy and added investigation was under way to unearth real culprits. (Pajhwok)
