Agreed with US on Kabul Airport Security: Erdogan

KABUL - Turkish president RecepTayyipErdogan has said Turkey and the US have reached an agreement on security of Hamid Karzai International Airport.
According to a report in Voice of America, Erdogan said that Turkish and US defense ministers discussed the issue over the telephone last Thursday.
“During discussions with America and Nato, we decided on what would be the scope of the mission, what we would accept and not accept,” he said.
Turkey has pledged to provide security for Hamid Karzai International Airport after foreign troops’ pullout from Afghanistan but the country requested $130 million for the purpose.
Erdogan had also talked on the issue with the US President Joe Biden in NATO summit in Brussels last month.
The US has welcomed the Turkish offer for the country’s ‘clear commitment’ to Kabul Airport security.
Kabul Airport is the main exit way for foreign diplomats and aid workers.
The US also said that the country would leave around 600 troops in Afghanistan to provide security for its embassy, diplomats and Kabul security after foreign forces withdrawal. (Pajhwok)
