Uruzgan Residents Claim Security Forces Killed Student

TIRINKOT - Hundreds of residents of Tirinkot, the capital of central of Uruzgan province, on Sunday protested in front of the governor’s office, claiming that security forces had killed a student.
The protestors said a student was shot dead by soldiers at security check-posts in the Safidkhar area of Tirinkot on Sunday.
The residents who gathered in front of the governor’s office in protest also brought the student’s body with them.
The victim’s uncle, Mohammad Sadiq, told Pajhwok Afghan News that his nephew was a young boy and had graduated from the 12th grade this year.
He said it was not the first time security forces manning local security check-posts fired on their villagers as similar incidents had happened in the past as well.
Another protester, Abdul Bari, said the government should arrest the culprit and bring him to justice.
He said if justice was not delivered to the family of the slain student, they would launch similar protests.
Governor Mohammad Omar Sherzad told reporters after meeting the protesters that he had instructed a joint delegation to visit the area to investigate the incident.
According to him, after investigation, the culprit will be handed over to the judicial organs.
The governor said it was not yet known if the student had been targeted by their security forces or by the Taliban in the area, as there was a security cordon.
Sherzad said no one has the right to shoot civilians. (Pajhwok)
