Iran’s Role in Hosting Afghan Refugees Commended

KABUL - Afghanistan, Pakistan and Turkey have commended Iran’s role in hosting Afghan refugees amid the latest push to stabilise the war-torn country.
At their meeting in Istanbul, the three foreign ministers acknowledged the role of regional and neighbouring countries, in particular Pakistan and Iran, in hosting Afghan refugees for more than four decades.
In a joint statement, published in the Tehran Times, they stressed the need for creating conducive conditions in Afghanistan for the voluntary, safe and dignified repatriation of the refugees under a well-resourced plan.
The global fraternity was urged to assist the host countries in meeting essential needs of the refugees and support repatriation and reintegration efforts of the Afghan government.
The foreign ministers noted the Istanbul conference’s postponement after extensive discussions with all relevant parties. The event will be held when conditions for making meaningful progress would be more favourable. (Pajhwok)
