Political Settlement Leading to Peace Key Goal: Ghani

KABUL - President Ashraf Ghani says talks on key issues must be held as soon as possible and it is the government’s job to pave the way for peace.
Ghani underlined the imperative of substantive discussions during a meeting with the High Council of Women, a statement from the Presidential Palace said.
“No peace negotiation is easy; we have to resolve on the main issues before deciding on formalities, and it is up to the government to pave the way for the restoration of peace,” he added.
A political solution leading to permanent peace and peace with dignity was a key goal of his administration, Ghani said.
The president congratulated the participants on holding the first meeting of the High Council of Women, calling it a great honour: “Afghan women are now representing themselves and making their voices louder with each passing day.”
He approved the council’s membership procedure and made ministries of telecommunications, information technology and economy permanent members of the panel. He directed the authorities concerned to receive women’s proposals at the provincial level so that they could be sectorised and presented separately at meetings of the council.
The statement quoted Rula Ghani as saying the establishment of the council proved the government’s support to women. The panel was a huge step towards promoting women’s role in the decision-making process.
Acting Minister of Women’s Affairs Hasina Safi provided information about the High Council of Women and her report to the president on how the council worked in consultation with women.
She said the council was established in accordance with the presidential decree (55), dated 12/8/2020, to ensure solutions to women’s problems in the socio-economic, political, cultural and legal areas. (Pajhwok)
