KABUL - President Ashraf Ghani on Saturday said today’s Afghanistan was not the country the security of which ensured by others.
The president was addressing a gathering at the Presidential Palace marking the National Day of Support for Security and Defence Forces.
“The morale of Afghan security and defence forces is unique, the capacity of our security forces is honorable and all of us are proud of you, you are the heroes of this country. In the past one hundred and forty years, the Afghan security and defence forces had no such popular support as they have today,” Ghani said.
According to President Ghani, there is no government without security and defense forces, everyone should be sure that maintaining, strengthening and equipping our defense and security forces is the first task of the government.
In the last six years, the Afghan forces gained good capacity to effectively defend their territory and all the people were standing behind them, the president said.
“All the people of Afghanistan believe that you are the custodian and implementer of the Afghan Constitution and that you protect the Constitution. Your policy is national policy, national sovereignty and the preservation of this land,” he added.
Ashraf Ghani said more than 90 percent of anti-terrorist operations were carried out by special forces, commandos, national security forces.
Referring to the peace talks, Ghani said: “We want lasting and dignified peace that strengthens our security and defence forces.” (Pajhwok)
