Rescue Teams Continue Search Three Days after Parwan Floods

PARWAN - The search for missing bodies under rubble is underway for the third day after floods swept the Charikar city in the central province of Parwan early on Wednesday, August 26, leaving almost 100 people dead.
Many Parwan residents are still waiting for their relatives who are missing following the floods, according to TOLOnews’ Khalid Nikzad.
Members of victims’ families said the rescue mission is slow and that the assistance to them has not been provided properly.
“I know people from our relatives and neighbors who are still missing,” said Wahidullah Ghafoori, a resident of Charikar city. “We call on the government to provide more help and send in more equipment to find those who are missing.”
“They (officials) are only visiting the area and are not taking action to help the people,” said Abdul Salam, a resident of Charikar.
The floods also hit Kapisa, Panjshir, Maidan Wardak, Logar, Paktia, Paktika, Nuristan, Nangarhar, Laghman, Khost and Ghazni provinces, leaving over 150 dead, according to government data.
Afghanistan’s Meteorological Department has forecast more rains in Nangarhar, Kabul and the Wakhan area of northern Badakhshan province in the next 24 hours.
The department claimed that it had warned on Tuesday against heavy rains and flooding in the affected areas, including Parwan province.
However, the people in the affected areas said they were not informed about the possibility of flooding and rainfalls.

Over 4,000 people were badly affected by the floods in Parwan, according to the government data. (TOLO NEWS)
