PESHAWAR - Days ahead of the launch of intra-Afghan negotiations, Pakistan has urged all Afghan leaders and stakeholders to seize the opportunity for peace.
Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said: “Afghan leadership should seize this historic opportunity to achieve a comprehensive, broad-based and inclusive political settlement in Afghanistan.”
At a meeting with outgoing Afghan Ambassador Shukrullah Atif Mashal here on Wednesday, he welcomed the Loya Jirga’s recommendation for the release of prisoners and hoped Intra-Afghan talks would begin soon,
A statement from the Foreign Office quoted Qureshi as saying the success of the peace process would not only bring stability to Afghanistan, but would also ensure prosperity in the region.
Earlier in the day, Mashal met President Arif Alvi and Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Bajwa. The ambassador thanked the COAS for support for the Afghan peace process. (Pajhwok)
