Pakistan Calls for Early Start to Intra-Afghan Talks

PESHAWAR - Pakistan has called on the global fraternity to focus on ensuring an early start and successful completion of intra-Afghan negotiations.
It once again blamed unnamed “spoilers” who did not wish to see the restoration of peace and stability in Afghanistan and the region. The world was urged not to let such elements succeed.
Participating in a virtual conference in Kabul on Strengthening Consensus for Peace, Pakistan underlined the importance of a peaceful and stable Afghanistan for peace and stability in the region and beyond.
A statement from the Foreign Office said the signing of the US-Taliban Peace Agreement had created a historic opportunity that must be seized by the Afghan leadership to work together and achieve an inclusive political settlement.
“Pakistan also underlined its hope that the release of prisoners will be completed soon as per the Peace Agreement to pave the way for the earliest commencement of intra-Afghan negotiations,” it added.
Pakistan also spokes of the steps it had taken to facilitate Afghanistan’s trade by opening border crossing terminals after implementing COVID-19 protocols.
Islamabad suggested the repatriation and reintegration of Afghan refugees should be part of the peace and reconciliation process.
It urged the world to support a time-bound and well-resourced programme for the return of Afghan refugees to their homeland with dignity and honour. (Pajhwok)
