KABUL - The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Afghanistan has climbed to 15,205, the country's Public Health Ministry announced on Sunday.
Deputy Public Health Minister Wahid Majrooh, who was speaking at an event to inaugurate a telemedicine center in Kabul, said that a total of 680 new coronavirus cases were registered over the past 24 hours.
According to the official, death toll from the virus rose to 257 including eight reported over the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, 1,328 coronavirus patients have recovered since the outbreak began in Afghanistan in March, according to the official.
At the event, Majrooh also said that open-heart surgery will be possible for the first time in a state-run hospital in Kabul in the next two weeks.
Referring to a herbalist who claimed to have made a product to cure coronavirus patients, Majrooh warned people not to use it unless it is approved by national and international institutions.
He said that the clinic of the practitioner had been closed by authorities yesterday, but it reopened today. (1TV News)
