Tadamichi Yamamoto Receives State Medal of 'Sayed Jamaluddin Afghan' From President Ghani

KABUL – President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met with the U.N. special envoy Tadamichi Yamamoto late yesterday, the Afghan Presidential Palace (ARG) said in a statement.
During a meeting, the Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani awarded Mr. Tadamichi Yamamoto, the outgoing head of UNAMA, the State Medal of ‘Sayed Jamaluddin Afghan’ and praised his efforts in Afghanistan.
Mr. Yamamoto expressed happiness over his mission in Afghanistan and expressed hope for the success of the new Afghan government.
“May 2020 be the year that the war ends and Afghans can look forward with hope to a peaceful and flourishing society that they so richly deserve,” Mr. Yamamoto said in a statement.
President Ghani awarded him the State Medal at a time that Mr. Yamamoto’s term was ended yesterday, March 21.
It is worth noting that Tadamichi Yamamoto is a diplomat who has served as U.N. Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan and head of the U.N. Assistance Mission in Afghanistan for more than five years. (TKG)
