Logar Scholars, Residents Call for Intra-Afghan Talks

Logar Scholars, Residents Call for Intra-Afghan Talks

PUL-I-LAM - Religious scholars and tribal elders in central Logar province on Wednesday urged the government and the Taliban to declare a permanent ceasefire for lasting peace in the country.
Participants of the gathering in Pul-i-Alam, the provincial capital, called on the warning parties to declare a comprehensive truce ceasefire for the sake of durable peace.
Syed Farhad Akbari, a tribal elder, told Pajhwok Afghan News that intra-Afghan talks and truce could bring an end to the ongoing conflict in the country.
He remarked: “We have an Islamic republic system in vogue in our country. The current conflict in Afghanistan is against Islamic teachings.”
Maulvi Mehrabuddin, a religious scholar, urged the militants to stop the trail of death and destruction in the country and end their conflict with the government through peace negotiations.
He said, “The Taliban should stop their attacks in Afghanistan now that they have signed a peace agreement with the US. Their attacks on the Afghan security forces were against the principles of Islam.”
A number of others participants held similar views and called on the warning parties to address their issues through peaceful means. (Pajhwok)
