Afghan Political Leaders Meet to Discuss Composition of Negotiating Team

KABUL - Afghan political leaders including Abdullah Abdullah and Hamid Karzai met on Saturday to discuss the composition of team to negotiate with the Taliban.
The meeting was held in the residence of Karim Khalili, who is the head of High Peace Council, an individual close to him told 1TV.
Hizb-i-Islami leader Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, Jamiat-i-Islami acting head Salahuddin Rabbani were also present at the meeting.
Intra-Afghan peace talks were expected to start on March 10, according to the US-Taliban deal.
The US State Department said this week that the electoral dispute between Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and political rival Abdullah Abdullah had delayed the naming of a team to negotiate with the Taliban.
On Saturday, NATO’s Senior Civilian Representative in Afghanistan Nicholas Kay called on Afghan political leaders to unite for peace.
“I call on all Afghan political leaders to resolve their differences, compromise and unite for peace as coronavirus sweeps the world,” Kay said on Twitter. (1TV NEWS)
