Afghan-US Agreement Not to Be Signed Before Bonn: MoFA

KABUL - Afghan-US strategic agreement will not be signed before the second Bonn conference on Afghanistan, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said on Sunday.
A spokesman for the MoFA, Janan Musazai, said that no exact dates have been fixed for the agreement to be signed, but that talks between Afghanistan and the United States on the recommendations of the Traditional Jirga, that was recently held in Kabul, were continuing.

President Hamid Karzai recently convened a traditional Jirga of 2,000 Afghan elders and tribal leaders to discuss Afghan strategic partnership with the United States.
The Jirga unanimously backed the idea of signing a strategic agreement with the US.

According to the MoFA, Afghanistan has made all preparations for the Bonn Conference that is scheduled to be held on 5 December.

"Washington hoped that if the agreement could have been signed ahead of the Bonn Conference, it would have been a good news for both countries, but because the Jirga recommendations are still being taken into consideration, it has so far been delayed," MoFA spokesman, Janan Musazai, said.

Mr Musazai added that anti-government armed groups will not be represented in the conference and that no changes have been made in Afghan delegation.
