Military Support for Afghanistan to Continue: Germany

KABUL - Germany will continue to extend military cooperation with Afghanistan within the framework of NATO’s training of Afghan police, the National Security Council (NSC) said on Monday.
National Security Advisor (NSA) Hamdullah Mohib, during his visit to Germany, met government officials on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference and discussed bilateral ties and the Afghan peace process.
In a statement, NSC said German officials assured Mohib that Berlin would continue training Afghan police and its military cooperation with Afghanistan in the framework of the NATO mission.
German parliament would soon take a decision on a military presence in Afghanistan, said the officials, who assured support for German troops staying in the country.
The officials also assured Mohib they would support peace parleys which could ensure peace and stability in Afghanistan and end the ongoing war in the country.
Mohib also met Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction John Sopko and discussed with him steps the government had taken in the fight against corruption and implementation of security reforms.
The NSA held separate meetings with leaders from the Netherland, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, the NATO secretary general and US chief negotiator Zalmay Khalilzad. (Pajhwok)
