Russia Rejects Meddling in Afghan Internal Affairs

KABUL - The Russian Embassy in Afghanistan on Wednesday strongly rejected as baseless accusations that Moscow interfered in the internal affairs of Afghanistan or supported any terrorist organizations.
“We draw attention to the fact that such irresponsible anti-Russian statements, which periodically appear in the Afghan media and are heard from some politicians, have never been substantiated. Thus, the repetition of groundless accusations against Russia just presents a malicious portrait of those who utter them,” the Embassy said in a statement.
“We once again emphasize that the Russian Federation wants Afghanistan to be a peaceful, independent, economically developed state, free from terrorism and narcotics.”
It said Moscow was making every possible effort to promote a peaceful settlement in Afghanistan. The mission said Russia supported the Afghan youth and annually provided scholarships for the Afghan National Security Forces officers for studying at different Russian universities free of charge.
The reaction comes after representatives of as many as 20 civil society organisations during a press conference accused Russia of interfering in the internal affairs of Afghanistan.
Wamal Sahel, head of a youth civil society organization called Nawandesh, said that the former Soviet Union suppressed the people of Afghanistan during their invasion and deprived its people of economic, social and infrastructure development. He called on the current Russia to stop meddling in the internal matters of Afghanistan. (Pajhwok)
