CHARIKAR - The Salang highway, linking the capital Kabul with northern Afghanistan, was shut for cargo trucks on Wednesday, an official said.
Samiullah, the highway maintenance commander, told Pajhwok Afghan News the key route was closed for cargo trucks at around 8am as a result of heavy snowfall and strong winds.
He said 15 centimetres of snowfall was recorded in the northern part of the highway and 43 centimetres in the southern portion.
In the winter, traveling the busy highway is dangerous for passengers due to heavy snow and cold weather conditions. (Pajhwok)
