Security Report Ready for Submission to President

KABUL - A 150-page draft report on overall security and measures to control the situation would be submitted soon to President Hamid Karzai, the Ministry of Defense announced on Wednesday.
The draft envisages the lead role for the Afghan National Army (ANA) in ensuring national security, the ministry spokesman, Gen. Zahir Azimi, told a press conference in Kabul.

Challenges facing the country, army duties, geopolitics, geostrategic conditions in the region and the ANA ability to maintain security and deal with foreign aggression are key features of the draft report.
The three armed forces would be responsible for maintaining security and dealing with possible foreign aggression, the spokesman added.

Jointly prepared by the ministries of defense and interior, as well as the National Directorate of Security (NDS), the draft would be sent to the president within two days, Azimi said.
Currently standing at 175,000, the ANA strength would reach 194,000 at the end of 2012, the spokesman told a questioner.
