Afghanistan Needs  Afghan Owned, Inclusive Reconciliation: Pakistan

UNITED NATIONS - Pakistan has called for an "Afghan-owned and inclusive" reconciliation process towards durable peace as it told the world diplomats that pulling Afghanistan out of decades-old troubles depends on sustained cooperation of the international community.

"Pakistan supports an Afghan-led and inclusive reconciliation process to bring the opposition groups into the political mainstream," a top Pakistani diplomat said in the General Assembly while discussing the situation in the landlocked country, which shares a 2600-km long porous border with Pakistan.

As also underlined in the UN Secretary General's report, "reconciliation process needs constructive dialogue and not politics distorted by mistrust, intimidation, fear or revenge", Raza Bashir Tarar, acting permanent representative of Pakistan, underlined.

Tarar reaffirmed Islamabad's commitment to and supportor a peaceful and stable Afghanistan. "No other country has suffered more than Pakistan from the conflict and instability in Afghanistan. (Monitoring Desk)
