TIRINKOT - The Interior Ministry has fired Uruzgan police chief Brig. Gen. Khitab Khanjari, an official said on Friday.
Khanjari’s sacking came two weeks after district police chiefs accused him of seeking hundreds of thousands of afghanis every month from them.
At a recent meeting, thedistrict police heads also blamed their boss for being involved in other forms of corruption, including taking money from police salaries.
A government official based in Uruzgan confided to Pajhwok Afghan News that Khanjari had been removed as provincial chief and summoned to Kabul.
Col. Sardar Mohammad Haya, who has been appointed as acting police head, confirmed the Interior Ministry had summoned Khanjari to Kabul.
“But I don’t why the ministry has summoned Uruzgan police chief to Kabul or whether he has been referred to prosecutors,” he added.
Pajhwok has also received a copy of the letter from the Interior Ministry, directing Khanjari to come to Kabuland appointing Haya as acting police chief for Uruzgan. (Pajhwok)
